NEWHALL 0 LUFFS 0 (24/9/05)

LOUGHBOROUGH dominated this game from beginning to end, created and missed a dozen good chances to score and came home with a very unsatisfactory no score draw.

After keeper Ben Hall punched clear he became a virtual spectator for the rest of the game as the Luffs mastered the difficult pitch surface and created regular chances. Ruben Frances was the main protagonist for missing chances, this is a game he will want to forget, his first early shot was blocked and the rebound was hit just over by Froyland Litherland.

Roystone Whittle had keeper Adrian Borthwick struggling to keep hold of the ball but there was none there to tap in the loose ball and he got away with it. Matt Kearns set up Nathan Dale at the back post but he could only find the side netting while Ruben Francis scraped the bar with his goal at his mercy.

Modoe Darboe forced a save from Borthwick and Francis went clear but the Newhall keeper was there again and the chance was wasted. Newhall first attempt on goal came after half an hour of soaking up the pressure and Sam Waite could have pinched a goal with a header just past the post, that really would have been an injustice. Late in the half Newhall got more into the Loughborough half of the field but but defenders Mattt Kearns and Matt Watkiss were in good form and earned the clean sheet that ensued. On the stroke of half time Carl Eagling looked in a position to pull the trigger for Newhall but Watkiss snapped into the tackle to extinguish the threat.

If anything the second half was even more pain full to watch, Francis was stopped by a tackle from Adam Stockdale, Darboe headed onto the roof of the net and Nathan dale turned and shot over the bar. Managers Barratt and Barber made the changes bringin on more attacking players, this was a game that should have been won and they were well aware of the chances going begging.

Paco Box hit the bar, Leon Fay hit the post as Newhall rode their considerable luck. Martin Kearns abandoned his defending role and had a header saved. Fay showed his pace but was stopped as he shaped to shoot and then got clear only to shoot past the post.

In the end a nil nil draw was a massive disappointment all round and a chance missed to move up the table. The Luffs next four games will be cup games starting on Saturday against Sileby Town in the Leicestershire Senior Cup down at The Drome kick off 2.30 PM.
