HOLLY LANE 1 LUFFS 0 (24/04/02)
Loughborough only had themselves to blame for losing this one there were enough chances to have been four goals in the lead by half time as they exposed the Holly Lane defence time and time again and never cashed in.

Brookes had a shot deflected wide, Edwards had a header saved by keeper Pring while at the other end Philips saw an overhead kick go wide. The normally accurate finisher O'Callaghan was off form on this night and twice failed to produce the goods from headers.

The best chance of the half was won by O'Callaghan who robbed a Holly Lane defender but with just the keeper to beat shot wide. Brookes shot just over the top while at the other end Springthorpe hade to narrow his angles well to stop Holly Lanes' Williams clear through on goal.

O'Callagahn was clear through again but again shot wide while Brookes shot wide when he might have done better and the first half remained goal less with a hatfull of chances being wasted by the Loughborough side. The second half saw Carl Springthorpe head just wide from a free kick while Holly Lane sounded out a warning getting the ball in the net but after some consultation having it ruled out for offside, this wasn't a good night for officials either.

O'Callaghan was through on goal yet again but shot wide while Richardson grazed the bar for Loughborough. But the grim reaper awaits those who venture too far too often at night and when Holly Lane won a corner they showed The Luffs just how to finish and that one goal proved enough.

There were chances for both sides before the end of the game, but this was a grim affair and an even grimmer result for the Loughborough side and just about put paid to any thoughts of lifting themselves into third place above Knowle.
