THRINGSTONE 0 LUFFS 7 (12/12/02)Loughborough Charity Cup
LOUGHBOROUGH coasted into the semi finals of the Loughborough Charity Cup on a frosty Thursday evening against the Leicestershire Senior League side Thringstone.

There was never really any doubt which way this one was going as Loughborough paraded their skills and better pace to deliver a goal every fifteen minutes.

Basically Thringstone never got a look in as Aylward hit the bar and Stevenson had his shot cleared off the line in the opening minutes but it was Loughborough's ace striker paul O'Callaghan who opened the scoring after the battling Thringstone side had held out for twenty minutes.

It didn't signal the opening of the flood gates, credit this Thringstone with a bit more character than that, Loughborough had to work hard for every single goal, but there was a difference in class on this evening.

Aylward made it two with a free kick few keepers would have got near and when Mark Dabney burst through the middle it was three nil before the half time break.

Carl Springthorpe made it four from a corner straight from the kick off and it was all over bar the shouting. The Loughborough keeper Paul Springthorpe making his first appearance of the season after injury in the summer had just one save to make at the feet of a Thringstone forward but it was his counterpart at the other end who had most to do.

Several good chances to score went begging which didn't impress manager Tebbutt but he could help but be impressed by the fifth goal as Steve Mould controlled outside the area and volleyed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

From then on it was the Paul O'Callaghan show has he completed his hat trick to make it a resounding 0-7 victory for The Luffs.

They now travel to Barrow Town of the Leicestershire Senior League at a date yet to be fixed in the semi final.
