LUFFS 1 NORTHFIELD 1 (04/05/02) @ The Drome
Loughborough at least stopped the rot on Saturday but still wasn't good enough to take all three points off lowly Northfield Town. It has been a disappointing end to the season for The Luffs having to settle in the end for fourth place when along the way they have looked very much in contention for automatic promotion to the Premier Division.

The early part of this game saw the Loughborough side attacking their visitors, and it seemed just a matter of time before they scored as O'Callaghan spurned a half chance and Edwards headed one just past the post. But too often this season Loughborough have done this and been caught on the break and this week was the same as Kelsall left the Loughborough defence for dead to beat keeper Springthorpe with a one on one.

At least on this occasion Loughborough's reply was instant, they went straight down the other end and when Richardson's shot was parried by keeper Hollis, Loughborough's O'Callaghan was on hand to put the loose ball in the net to make it 1-1 and to up his personal tally for the season to 39.

From then on it was going either way, Bell was clear through for Loughborough and shot wide while Northfield's Oucher had 'keeper Springthorpe at full stretch to see one round the post. Towards the end of the first half Loughborough began to get their noses in front, O'Callaghan could have had another and Rogers saw a long shot go just wide while Micntosh went on a mazey run past two defenders only to shoot over the top.

The second half brought no goals at all but there were chances, a glancing header found the side netting from Bell while a Mcintosh low cross went unattended. Loughborough's Bouchard came closest to scoring, twice he slid in and missed the ball by a whisker.

Carl Springthorpe headed just wide from a corner and the game finished with both side looking for a winner and Mcintosh producing a top corner save from Hollis and a share of the points.
