LUFFS APPOINT NEW MANAGER (14/6/10)
|
THE LOUGHBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB has appointed Mick Barrett as first team manager for the forthcoming 2010/11 season.
Mick was previously in charge of the Luffs for four successful years up until 2003 and led the side to fourth place in Division One of the Midland Combination as well as the semi-final of the Leicestershire Senior Cup. The club has also brought in former player Pete Harvey from Highfield Rangers as Head Coach to work alongside Barrett.
"The club is absolutely delighted to bring a manager of Mick's calibre back to the Drome, he is someone who has a proven track record several divisions above the level we are currently playing at and will be able to bring the quality of players and the level of professionalism that we need to be successful in this league. Appointing Mick is a signal of the club's intent to move forward through the football pyramid and as it coincides with the ongoing development of the facilities at Derby Road it heralds exciting times for Loughborough FC."
Pre-season training will begin for all three Luffs teams on Saturday 3rd July, 2pm at The Drome, followed by a programme of friendlies prior to the North Leicestershire League season commencing on 31st August.
LOUGHBOROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB have been awarded the North Leicestershire League Cottons Disciplinary Cup for completing the 2009/10 season without incurring any league disciplinary penalties.
"It is fitting recognition for the administrators who work so hard behind the scenes at the club and shows that the Luffs are just as ready to move forward off the field as they are on it."

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE (10/11/08)
|
|
THE LOUGHBOROUGH Football Club has parted company with its long-standing chairman Andy Watkiss after eight years of service.
Mr Watkiss has reluctantly resigned his position due to personal commitments and the club expresses its appreciation for his years of service.
"Andy was a hands on Chairman and it will be difficult to find a replacement."
But a replacement has to be found and the club is now actively looking for a new Chairman and applications will be considered for the position. It comes at a good time for a new Chairman to make his mark, there is a good squad of players and a good young first team manager already in place. The club is financially stable and carries no debts and expects to move to a new purpose built ground in the year 2010.
The new Chairman will be expected to help steer the club into a new era of non-league football, to restore the club's former senior status and beyond. A knowledge of non-league football would be helpful but not essential, the club will be moving into a business situation and that ability would be first priority.
The club is well aware that progress through the pyramid of football depends as much on ground development as it does on success on the field and believes it has laid the foundations for both.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE (28/7/08)

PLANS for a new Business Park and replacement recreation facilities on the north-eastern outskirts of Loughborough, Dishley Grange, have been submitted to Charnwood Borough Council by local developer, William Davis Limited.
The development will bring forward land allocated for employment by the Borough Council in its Local Plan. Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration Stephen Hampson said "This will provide much needed employment land and generate new jobs for the area. It's vital that we continue to identify opportunities like this to attract new business and provide for expansion of exisiting ones. It's a fantastic opportunity for economic growth and the land swap deal with William Davis will enable the Borough Council to retain the same area of land for recreational use but also to update the facilities."
The proposed development site, which totals some 9.5 hectares in size, will provide for a mix of industrial, warehouse and office space totalling 38,907 square metres which, if approved, will provide much needed land for employment purposes over the next 8-10 years. Additionally, the plans include the development of a new football pitch and associated facilities for Loughborough Football Club whose existing pitch is affected by the development. Club Chairman Andy Watkiss said "This is an exciting opportunity for the football club after many years of frustration in trying to secure a long term lease to move the club forward. In the last few months we have had some fruitful meetings with bothe council and representatives from William Davis. The facilities they are offering us will help the club move substantially forward in the next few years together with the recently announced initiatives. There is still a fair amount of hard work to do in securing a clubhouse etc. but this is a very good start for Loughborough Football Club's future."
Works associated with the new development would include the provision of a new access road and roundabout, together with new pedestrian and cycle routes linking with public transport routes and the existing cycle path network.
Substantial landscaping and new tree planting has been designed within the scheme by the award-winning counsultants, FPCR, based at Lockington Hall.
It is anticipated that when the development is fully operational, up to 800 jobs may be created at the site. Commenting on the application on behalf of william Davis, Development Surveyor, Stewart Kellie, says "This new employment site has been on the drawing board for a number of years now, and following the allocation for employment purposes within the Local Plan in 2004, our team of professional consultants have been addressing all the technical issues arising from a scheme of this nature. Recent take-up of employment land and buildings within Charnwood, specifically within Loughborough itself, has over the past few years resulted in there being very little opportunity for exisiting Loughborough-based businesses to expand or for new inward investment within the town."
Agent, Alex Reid of Loughborough-based Mather Jamie, has been providing marketing advice for the project and is confident that it will be well received. He said "This will be an exciting development for Loughborough and we are sure that there will be considerable interest as the availability of flexible business space in and around the area is extremely limited. We are looking forward to the new development at Dishley moving on to the next stage with some firm time lines that we can start to work towards."
